MSU Texas, Vernon College agreement strengthens transfer pathways

Midwestern State University Texas and Vernon College will formally recognize a new articulation agreement during a ceremonial signing at 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 21 in the Joe Chat Sumner Conference Room at the Vernon College Century City Center. The agreement reaffirms the institutions’ shared commitment to student success and creates seamless pathways for students transferring from Vernon College to MSU Texas.

The agreement outlines how the two institutions will continue collaborating to support students as they pursue associate and bachelor's degrees at Vernon College and MSU Texas. The partnership is designed to simplify the transfer process, maximize transfer credit opportunities, and provide clear academic pathways that help students move efficiently toward degree completion.

“Vernon College is proud to continue its longstanding partnership with MSU Texas,” said Vernon College President Dusty Johnston. “This agreement provides students with greater clarity and confidence as they plan their educational journeys and take the next step toward earning a bachelor's degree.”

Under the agreement, Vernon College students who meet MSU Texas admission requirements will receive automatic admission to the university. Transfer students will continue to meet the same academic standards and degree-program requirements as students who begin their education at MSU Texas.

The institutions will collaborate to develop and maintain transfer guides allowing students to better identify courses that transfer directly to MSU Texas degree programs. These guides will focus on coursework that fulfills prerequisites and major requirements, helping students stay on track toward graduation.

“Partnerships such as this strengthen educational opportunities throughout our region and help students achieve their academic goals with confidence,” said MSU Texas President Stacia Haynie. “This agreement reflects our commitment to making higher education more accessible and ensuring students have a clear, affordable path to earning a bachelor's degree.”

Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and a minimum of 12 earned credit hours to qualify for transfer admission. Unless otherwise specified in a program-specific pathway, MSU Texas will accept up to 69 credit hours earned at Vernon College toward a bachelor's degree.

The agreement also strengthens reverse transfer opportunities, allowing students who transfer to MSU Texas before completing an associate degree to apply eligible coursework completed at the university toward completion of their Vernon College associate degree. This process enables students to earn additional credentials along the way toward a bachelor's degree.
