Wellness Center event informs students about wellness resources
The Redwine Wellness Center is an excellent resource for students and staff, but wellness assistance doesn’t stop there.
For the past five years, the Bruce and Graciela Redwine Wellness Center has held a Wellness Fair to inform students of wellness resources on and off campus. This year’s event will take place from 4-6 p.m. It will take place Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Clark Student Center.
Angie Reay, executive director of the Wellness Center, said the fair is a priority. Many organizations will provide information and distribute free refreshments, samples, and services. The first 50 students will receive a wellness bag, and attendees can enter a drawing for a bookstore prize.
“It’ll definitely be a good opportunity for students to drop by. That’s all it is – a drop-by. They don’t have to stay for the whole two hours. It’s come and go, walk around and see what interests you,” Reay said.
On-campus resources will include Disability Services, the Counseling Center, Dental Hygiene, Recreational Sports, Timely Care, the Food Pantry and the Wellness Center.
Organizations from the greater Wichita Falls community will also participate. This year’s participants include Absolute Wellness, Complete Nutrition, the Lions Club, the Public Health Department, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Family & Community Health, Red River Hospital, North Texas Area United Way, Community Health Care Center, the Department of Family Services and Southern Grit Advocacy.
Bringing a broad range of resources together in one place allows MSU Texas to connect students with the help that best fits their needs.
“We never know what students are going through, so that’s why I try to have a variety of different resources out there,” Reay said. “We’re just making sure that they’re aware of what’s on campus, off campus, and connecting with the community.”
The Wellness Center also offers other events and opportunities for students, including mapped-out workouts, tour appointments, and personal training sessions for $20. Free fitness classes include Cycle Fusion, Yoga Barre/Pilates, Step & Core, Dance, PiYo, and weightlifting. A schedule for the classes can be found on the Wellness Center website.
