Andrea Cantu of Midwestern State University placed fourth at the Collegiate Track National Championships in Indianapolis, highlighting a successful week for five MSU Cycling team members.

Cantu’s best showing came in the Women’s Scratch Race. Gabby Wrightsman placed eighth in the Women’s Individual Pursuit at track nationals. Wrightsman earned a top-10 finish at the road nationals in May.

“The team really showed their competitive spirit this week in all of the events we took part in,” MSU Cycling Director Mario Arroyave said. “Track racing is a very niche part of the sport, and unfortunately, we do not have access to a track nearby where our athletes can really hone their skills on a velodrome. That said, our athletes fought hard, and we came out with a podium performance to show for it. This got us off to a fantastic start to the year!”

Arroyave also said the men’s competitors at nationals (Sebastian DeLeon, Brody Burnham, Nicholas Martinelli) played active roles in the points and scratch races, helping make the weekend a success for MSU Cycling.

The MSU Cycling team will quickly switch gears to mountain biking in upcoming events.
