MSU Cycling excited to perform for fans in HHH Head Start event

Community members will have an opportunity to see some of the nation's top collegiate cyclists in action during the Hotter'N Hell Hundred Head Start event on Sunday, Aug. 23, along Taft Boulevard.

The MSU Texas Cycling Team will headline the evening with a criterium-style exhibition at 5 p.m., featuring nationally ranked riders Blake Keeling, Brody Burnham and Gabby Wrightsman. All three athletes recorded top-10 finishes at the National Road Race Championships last spring in Wisconsin.

MSU Cycling director Mario Arroyave said riders are expected to approach 30 mph as they race up and down Taft Boulevard.

"Folks who show up to the Head Start event will be amazed at how fast our athletes can ride a bike," Arroyave said. "Our riders may look small, but they can put lots of power into the pedals and make their bikes go really fast."

The Head Start event begins at Church Street and Taft Boulevard with remarks from MSU Texas President Dr. Stacia Haynie, Wichita Falls Mayor Tim Short and Hotter'N Hell Hundred Chairman David Coleman.

The schedule includes:

  • 4 p.m. - Introduction
  • 4:30 p.m. - Community ride with Mayor Short and President Haynie
  • 4:50 p.m. - Kids' ride with the MSU Cycling Team and Bulldog Biker Gang
  • 5 p.m. - MSU Texas Cycling Team exhibition
  • 5:30 p.m. - Open community ride

Food trucks will be on site throughout the event.

While the Hotter'N Hell Hundred has long been a Wichita Falls tradition, the Head Start event gives the community a unique opportunity to see the nationally competitive MSU Texas Cycling Team perform just steps from campus, a week before they compete in the historic HHH.
