While he grew up in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, Rubaiyat Saad Majid worked in five different countries before coming to Midwestern State University. 

Majid earned a master's degree in marketing in Australia before enrolling at MSU Texas. He knew pursuing another master's degree in the U.S. would be expensive, but he also believed it would help him achieve his goals. The support, encouragement, and opportunities he has received at MSU Texas have reassured him that he made the right choice. 

Throughout his adult life, Majid has valued determination and self-belief.

Aspiring to a leadership role in his field, he knew he needed a stronger foundation in data and technology, which led him to MSU. He said he chose the university because a North American business degree carries significant value in Asia. In addition, MSU offered the courses and resources he needed to expand his industry knowledge. 

“MSU has been very kind, and I feel like spending a lot of time at MSU and plan to come back to MSU whenever I get a chance. Everyone at MSU has been very kind,” Majid said. “The amount of love, support, and encouragement at this school is everything.” 

Majid said he has always applied for scholarships because he recognizes that the only way to receive one is to try. At MSU alone, he has already received multiple scholarships, most recently the Arbor Creek Scholarship.

Arbor Creek Apartments and Hayley Residential have supported MSU Texas graduate students with this scholarship for the past 18 years. In 2009, Arbor Creek management personnel realized how overwhelming the financial consequences could be when a college graduate decides to pursue an advanced degree. Since then, the scholarship, valued at approximately $7,500, has provided 18 students with a place to live without the burden of rent.

Recipients are responsible for deposits, utilities, and pet fees, if applicable. To maintain the scholarship, students must remain enrolled in a graduate program at MSU and stay in good academic standing. 

Majid said a friend first told him about the scholarship. Later, he received an email encouraging graduate students to apply. The application process included several forms, references, and a written statement. He expanded on his background and goals, and the effort paid off. 

Not long after submitting his application, Majid received an email informing him he had been selected. He said the scholarship will give him greater freedom, allowing him to move out of the dormitory
