Mustang Motorsports announces gift, upcoming Motor Fest event

Mustangs Motorsports is enjoying an exciting Fall 2025 campaign as they prepare a car to compete in Spring 2026 competitions.

Mustangs Motor Fest is coming on October 26 at Midwestern State University in the parking lot near Akin Auditorium and the Hardin Administration Building.

The FSAE team is excited to announce a $5,000 gift from Atmos Energy. Pam Hughes Pak, Manager of Public Affairs at Atmos Energy, said it made her “proud to be an alum” to see the experience gained by the student leadership on the FSAE team.

The funding helps students design, build, and test a Formula-style race car, while developing practical skills in teamwork, leadership, design, and project management. The partnership reflects Atmos Energy’s #FuelingSafeandThrivingCommunities initiative and highlights how local businesses are investing in student innovation, according to Romario Hughes, Vice President for Formula SAE.

“We want to help children reach reading pillars by the third grade, and with our scholarships to Midwestern, we want to provide opportunities to have educators help children achieve,” Pak said.

She was impressed with the organization and professionalism of the FSAE team at MSU.

“When they presented the idea to me, I was so thoroughly impressed; they were very professional with an email explaining the purpose, and they asked if I would be willing to attend a presentation,” Pak said. “They had a power point and four or five people ready to go. As an alumnus, I look at what they’re doing and see they’re learning to be engineers, but also learning to step out of their comfort zone and communicate. And they’re able to learn how to apply that in a professional manner. Being well-rounded is so important.”

A well-rounded education is something Atmos Energy was proud to support, and it was one reason MSU Texas Provost Marcy Brown Marsden championed the implementation of the FSAE program, which was an opportunity to mold not just a race car but to see multi-skilled students gain experience for a variety of career fields.
