Chris Stovall Named Vice President for Administration and Finance

Following a national search, Midwestern State University has named Chris Stovall as its Vice President for Administration and Finance. He will officially assume the duties of the position December 1.

“Chris has been a dedicated member of our university community for many years, bringing extensive expertise and experience to his role. As a certified public account, he brings a robust background in accounting and finance that will inform our commitment to student access and success,” said President Stacia L. Haynie.

As the university’s chief financial officer, Stovall will provide leadership, oversight, and stewardship for a broad range of operations, including budget and strategic financial planning, controller and student business services, facilities services, human resources, payroll, and purchasing and contract management.

“I am truly honored and grateful for the opportunity to continue serving my alma mater in this new leadership role. I look forward to partnering with the strong leadership team at MSU Texas, continuing to collaborate with the Texas Tech University System, and engaging with the campus community to help shape a bright future for MSU Texas and the students we serve,” Stovall said.

With almost two decades of experience in higher education, Stovall began his tenure at the university as an accountant in 2006. Stovall has served as controller at MSU Texas since 2014 and was named assistant vice president and controller in June 2022. He earned a BBA in finance, a BBA in accounting, and an MBA in general business, all from Midwestern State University.

Stovall has served on numerous councils and committees, including the staff senate, first-year seminar task force, Wichita Falls Museum of Art accreditation task force, data standards committee, and he serves as the chair of the compliance and ethics committee. He is a member of the College Business Management Institute, National Association of College & University Business Officers, Southern Association of College & University Business Officers, Texas Association of College & University Business Officers, Texas Connection Consortium, and the Texas Society of CPAs.
