MSU Texas recognized by FirstGen Forward Network

Midwestern State University was recognized once again in 2024 as a Network Member of the FirstGen Forward Network.

The mission of FirstGen Forward Network is to partner with higher education, philanthropy, business, the public sector, and others to catalyze first-generation student success. MSU Texas has once again met that criteria.

First-generation college students are important to the mission at MSU Texas as almost 44% of current students at MSU Texas indicate this status.

“By continuing our recognition as a member of the FirstGen Forward Network, MSU Texas has demonstrated a commitment to the support and success of first-generation college students,” said Keith Lamb, vice president for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs.

The FirstGen Forward Network says first-generation college students are critically important and an increasing population at nearly all higher education institutions. As college and university leaders and practitioners actively seek avenues to meet the specific needs of first-generation students, FirstGen Forward serves as a leader for scholarly discussion, data collection and dissemination, information sharing, networking, and evidence-based program development and best practices. MSU Texas is proud to welcome first-generation students and support their academic journey.

“These are students whose parents did not attend or graduate from college,” Lamb said. “Research is clear that targeted programs and support are critical to improving persistence and graduation amongst these students.  MSU Texas is committed to helping first-generation and all of our students thrive. The continued recognition in the FirstGen Forward Network is more evidence of this commitment.”
