Nonprofit Management Center joins international association
The Center for Nonprofit Management & Leadership in the Dillard College of Business Administration at Midwestern State University has been accepted into the Nonprofit Academic Centers Council, an international association focused on the study of nonprofit/nongovernmental organizations, voluntary action, and philanthropy.
Sonia White, director of the center, will serve as the NACC member representative for MSU Texas.
The NACC develops and promotes curricular guidelines and standards for nonprofit curriculum, degree plans, and academic centers. There are benchmarks in three areas that prospective academic centers must meet to become a member: education, research, and community engagement. White said she had wanted the center at MSU Texas to be a member of this association since she arrived in 2019. “Only recently have we been able to meet all three of those criteria and benchmarks – and I am super excited,” she said.

White has more than two decades of nonprofit leadership experience in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. She has overseen multimillion-dollar programs, secured more than $30 million in federal grants, and developed comprehensive undergraduate curricula in nonprofit management. “She brings a wealth of practitioner expertise, academic rigor, and entrepreneurial spirit to her role, reflecting NACC’s values of collaboration and excellence,” an NACC release stated.
Since its founding in 2019, the center has become a hub of nonprofit capacity-building for Wichita Falls and surrounding communities. Offering resources, consulting, and a nonprofit management minor, the center is committed to fostering sustainability and leadership across the social sector.
Its programming and credentials, including certifications from BoardSource and the Standards for Excellence Institute, demonstrate a deep investment in academic and practitioner development.
“Becoming a member of NACC elevates our Center for Nonprofit Leadership and Management and our nonprofit management minor. We are now in the company of other prestigious nonprofit programs such as those at The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University at College Station.”
The center joins the following Texas programs and universities in the NACC:
The Center for Nonprofits and Philanthropy, Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University; the Bachelor of Arts in Philanthropy program at the University of Texas at Arlington; the RGK Center for Philanthropy & Community Service, LBJ School of Public Affairs at The University of Texas at Austin; and the Public and Nonprofit Management program at the University of Texas at Dallas.
Kean University in New Jersey was also accepted for membership with MSU Texas. “These institutions join NACC’s international network of academic centers committed to advancing research, education, and leadership in nonprofit and philanthropic studies. We congratulate both on their commitment to strengthening the field and are delighted to include them in our growing community,” the release stated.
