A documentary produced by students in the Midwestern State University Mass Communication Department recently won an Award of Excellence from the Broadcast Education Association.

The film, “Disgrace To Embrace,” was produced by MSU Texas students Madison Davis, Jadon Lane, and Micah Logan. It was one of 10 entries cited in the Short-Form Documentary category.

BEA is an international organization of educators and media professionals. It sponsors three competitions for students and faculty, as well as conferences and other resources. This year’s competition drew about 1,300 entries in 10 categories from all over the United States and the world.

“Disgrace to Embrace,” a history of “The Littlest Skyscraper” in Wichita Falls, was also recently honored at the annual Visions 10 Film Festival, where it was one of only 28 films selected for exhibition. “Disgrace to Embrace” can be watched on YouTube.

Jim Sernoe, chair of the MSU Mass Communication Department, said, “Our documentaries have done well at BEA for several years running. This shows once again that MSU students can compete with the best students in the nation.”
