Men’s soccer celebrates history-making 2025 with ring ceremony
Midwestern State University honored its history-making 2025 NCAA Division II men's soccer national championship team on Aug. 8 with a ring ceremony at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at MSU Texas.
The Mustangs captured the first national title in a sanctioned sport in university history by winning their final 11 matches of the 2025 season, culminating in a 2-0 victory over Rollins (Fla.) in the NCAA Division II national championship match in Colorado Springs on Dec. 14.
Former KFDX sports anchor and reporter MJ Baird emceed the celebration, which featured remarks from MSU Texas President Stacia Haynie, Head Coach Michael Meechum and Athletics Director Kyle Williams.
“Your success has elevated our university, inspired our community, and created a legacy that will be remembered for years to come,” Haynie told the team. “We are proud not only of what you accomplished on the pitch, but also of th
e character and determination you displayed throughout the season.
“Thank you for representing us with excellence. Congratulations on an unforgettable championship season!”
Williams thanked the loyal Mustangs sponsors for their continuous investment in student-athletes to sustain the program through the years.
“Championships are won by teams, but they are sustained by communities,” Williams said. “We are grateful for your partnership and helping us pull off one of the most memorable parades and celebrations in Wichita Falls.”
The university and community teamed up for a memorable parade for the best D-II soccer team in the land back on Feb. 7.
The No. 1-ranked Mustangs will begin their 2026 season against Cal State East Bay on Aug. 27 at the UTD Soccer Complex in Dallas. The first home match for the reigning champs is at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, against Southern Nazarene.
