MSU Texas Esports expands membership, excelling in competition
MSU Texas Esports & Gaming is off to a lightning-quick start for Fall 2023. Since classes began three weeks ago, the club hosted tryouts featuring 58 unique eligible Midwestern State students, culminating in five rosters across VALORANT, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, League of Legends, Overwatch 2, and Rocket League.
The program also played host on Sept. 9-10 to more than 150 esports competitors across their second annual Hyperbeam Gaming Convention, co-hosted with Fallscon and Texoma Esports.
MSU Texas won exciting sets against Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology.
The competitive team isn’t the only place where the action has heated up. MSU Texas Esports & Gaming director Zachary Zoet reports that the club’s discord boasted 17,981 messages between move-in week in late August and Sept. 13.

Esports & Gaming Highlights
- MSU Texas Esports & Gaming, in conjunction with Texoma Esports, hosted a Super Smash Bros
Ultimate tournament with more than 100 players on Sept. 9.
- MSU Texas Esports & Gaming, in conjunction with Texoma Esports, hosted a collegiate invitational tournament that featured nine different teams from Texas and Oklahoma universities. The MSU Texas team took notable wins against Oklahoma City University and Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology at the event.
- The League of Legends and the VALORANT teams are attending LAN (Local Area Network) tournaments in Lawton, Oklahoma, Sept. 23-24.
