MSU Texas Mass Communication ranked in top 10 for documentary production

The Broadcast Education Association has ranked the Midwestern State University Mass Communication Department in the Top 10 nationally for student achievement in documentary production.

MSU Texas was ranked ninth among the more than 170 universities that have competed in the documentary category over the past five years. BEA determines the rankings based on each university’s cumulative performance in the competitions.

BEA is an international organization of educators and media professionals. It sponsors three annual competitions for students and faculty as well conferences and other resources. The competitions typically draw thousands of entries from all over the United States and the world.

Jim Sernoe, chair of the MSU Mass Communication Department, said other universities in the Top 10 included Arizona State University, Colorado State University, and Syracuse University. “We have once again shown that we can compete with any school in the country, including those that are 10 times larger and those that have considerably more resources,” he said.

Leah Gose, dean of the Lamar D. Fain College of Fine Arts, added, “I am so proud of our creative and talented students, and I am honored to work with such dedicated faculty.”
