On the Wall Workshops at WFMA

WFMA at MSU Texas to host summer workshops and art camp

Enjoy an art-filled summer with the On the Wall Workshops at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at MSU Texas. The WFMA will host several workshops plus a week-long art camp specifically for children aged 13-18.

The first On the Wall Workshops for cyanotypes will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, June 8, and from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, June 17. Cyanotype is a photographic process created by exposing paper or fabric to chemicals that make it sensitive to ultraviolet light, turning it blue when exposed. Masking or blocking light from the surface will leave that area unaffected, which allows designs, words, and images to be printed.

The next workshops will be working with cut paper from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, July 6, and from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, July 8. Participants will make collages inspired by works in the “A Survey of Artists from Erin Cluley Gallery” exhibition.

LEGO printing workshops will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, and from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 19. Participants will use LEGO pieces and ink to make relief prints.

A milk carton intaglio workshop will be from 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 25. Students will make prints using recycled milk cartons.

The On the Wall Workshops are free, and all materials are provided. All ages are welcome. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Sarah Griego will be the instructor.

For the kids, the WFMA will host the Print Palooza Summer Art Camp from 1-4 p.m. Monday-Friday, July 17-21.

On the first day of camp, attendees will be introduced to what the WFMA has to offer and will learn about monotypes.

Day 2 – LEGO relief printing.

Day 3 – kitchen lithography.

Day 4 – linocut collaboration project.

Day 5 – T-shirt printing.

At 6 p.m. on the last day of camp, the WFMA will host a mini gallery reception with selected student artwork on display. The students will decide which of their art they would like to show. Family and friends are welcome to attend.

Tuition for the week is $25, which includes snacks, T-shirts, and supplies. Space is limited. Registration ends June 30. Griego will be the instructor.

All activities will be at the Wichita Falls Museum of Art at MSU Texas, #2 Eureka Cr., Wichita Falls. To sign up or for more information, email sarah.griego@msutexas.edu, visit the museum’s website, or call 940-397-8900. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 1-5 p.m. Saturday.
