WFMA to host Distinguished Artist Veterans Exhibition
The Wichita Falls Museum of Art at Midwestern State University, in collaboration with Art Spark Texas, presents the 13th Annual Distinguished Artist Veterans Exhibition featuring artwork selected from artists who are veterans or current service military residing in Texas. The exhibition opens Nov. 5 and runs through Dec. 22. The opening reception is from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12.
Paintings, drawings, sculptures, prints, and photography illustrate these artists’ unique perspectives with inspiration from their civilian and military lives. “It’s an honor and a privilege to host this competitive juried exhibit,” WFMA Curator of Collections and Exhibitions Danny Bills said. “Since we have never had an exhibit quite like this before, I look forward to the outreach this opportunity will create. I hope the WFMA can be a place for conversation and engagement with this exhibition.”
Art Spark Texas provides services for current and prior military members and family. The arts are important to veterans because, for many military personnel, the arts are a way to express what they saw, heard, and experienced during service.
“We look forward to this opportunity to expand our reach across Texas and to meet and support veteran artists in North Texas,” said April Sullivan, artworks director, Art Spark Texas.
