Music events highlight Fain College’s spring events
The Department of Music in Midwestern State University’s Fain College of Fine Arts has scheduled a variety of music events to close out the spring semester.
Tuesday, April 5
Associate Professor of Music Matthew Luttrell will direct the Wind Ensemble in Akin Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5.
Thursday, April 7
Assistant Professor of Music Paul Geraci will direct the MSU Texas Jazz Ensemble in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Akin Auditorium. The concert will feature tunes by Thelonious Monk, Billie Holiday, Grover Washington Jr., and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Geraci will premiere a new jazz arrangement of Irving Berlin's Puttin’ on the Ritz. Student soloists featured include: Rueven Raper-Ostrow, trombone; Jonah Seigler, alto saxophone; and Jason Grubenhoff, trombone. View the concert trailer.
Monday, April 11
Luttrell will direct the MSU Texas Wind Communiversity Orchestra in concert at 7:30 p.m. in Akin Auditorium.
Thursday, April 21
The combined choirs of the Midwestern Singers and the Oratorio Chorus will present Celebrating a Century of Change directed by Assistant Professor of Music Thomas Wininger. The song selections will honor the six colleges at MSU Texas and the university as a whole with a performance of songs by Mozart, Mendelssohn, and other composers. The performance will also include four world premier pieces including one by Geraci and MSU Texas student Brianna Boone.
Tuesday, April 26
The Didzun Student Honor Recital will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in Akin Auditorium. The recital features performances by singers, instrumentalists, and keyboardists – all students selected by their music teachers as the finest in their classes.
Friday, April 29
The Department of Music will present Final Friday Concert for Tuba and Nikki with Professor of Music Ruth Morrow on piano and Associate Professor of Music Christopher Vivio on tuba at 7:30 p.m. in Akin Auditorium.
