New degree in Industrial Technology added to McCoy College of Science, Mathematics & Engineering
Many Wichita Falls area jobs are in manufacturing, and there is a growing demand for individuals with the education provided by an Industrial Technology Program.
A new degree offered by The McCoy College of Science, Mathematics & Engineering at Midwestern State University will help give many workers a chance to meet that need.
The new degree will allow those with an interest in engineering and technology, who may not have had the same interest in mathematics, to complete a degree to benefit them professionally, said Dr. Margaret Brown Marsden, dean of the McCoy College.
“A bachelor of science in industrial technology is a less math-intensive pathway towards getting a degree,” Brown Marsden said. “The degree is best for graduates who want to operate and maintain complex industrial systems.”
The new major in industrial technology will expand the range of options for students with engineering interests. MSU Texas still offers an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology-accredited mechanical engineering program as well as a BAAS with a concentration for working adults. The new major in industrial technology is ideal for a middle group and is modeled after Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering programs.
Texas universities with similar programs in industrial technology include Lamar University, Prairie View A&M University, Sam Houston State University, Texas State University, Sul Ross State University, Texas A&M University at Commerce, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Southern University, The University of Texas at Tyler, and The University of Texas Permian Basin. No additional resources were necessary to add this major.
