Amanda Threlkeld was appointed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to serve as the Midwestern State University Student Regent effective June 1, 2021. 

Threlkeld, from Wichita Falls, is pursuing a double major in accounting and management information systems from Midwestern State University. She recently earned a place on the Provost’s Honor Roll and was named the Redwine Honors Program Woman of the Year for 2021. In 2020, she was honored by the Delta Sigma Pi Professional Business Fraternity as the Collegian of the Year for the Tornado Alley Region, and she was named Hardin Scholar, the university’s highest award for academic excellence. 

Among Threlkeld’s success as a first-generation student her previous honors include Outstanding Sophomore Woman of the Year (2018-19), Howard Farrell Community Service Award (2017-18, 2018-19), National Model United Nationals Distinguished Delegation (2019), EURECA Undergraduate Forum First-Place Oral Presentation for Prothro-Yeager (2019), and President’s Honor Roll (Spring 2019). 

Student Regent is the highest appointed position of a student at Texas public institutions of higher education. The student regent represents all students, both undergraduates and graduates, for a one-year term on the MSU Texas Board of Regents, the university’s governing board. This position represents students in discussions of key issues in higher education. Although the student regent does not vote, he or she has the opportunity to share important input in decisions affecting the future of the university. 

Threlkeld replaces Montes Martinez as the student regent.
