MSU Texas to receive $4.4 million Federal Grant

As announced earlier today, Midwestern State University will receive a $4.4 million federal grant to respond to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. The grant funding is from the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund authorized by the CARES Act. Of the $4.4 million the University will receive, 50% will be designated toward providing students with emergency financial aid grants to help cover expenses related to the disruption of campus operations.  The second half of the grant makes possible reimbursement for losses faced by universities as a direct result of the pandemic’s disruption. 

“We are grateful to the federal government for providing additional assistance to support our students during this difficult time,” said MSU Texas President Suzanne Shipley. “The financial challenges for our students are real, and this funding will help to ease the burden many are experiencing.”

To facilitate the awarding of these emergency assistance funds in accordance with guidance provided by the Department of Education, the University has assembled a working group under the direction of Vice President Beth Reissenweber. The group is comprised of representatives from the business office, financial aid, information technology, and student affairs.
