MSU Texas student documentary team honored at competition

A documentary produced by students in the Midwestern State University Mass Communication Department was recently named best special broadcast in the national College Broadcasters Inc. competition.

The program, “Guardians,” was produced by MSU students Michelle Bloxham, Sterling Ellison, Clayton Keck, and Samantha Locke.

In addition, MSU students Tyler Manning, Daria Panferova, Emily Simmons, and Ara Washburn were finalists in the best documentary/public affairs category for “Napa, Texas.”

This is the second year in a row an MSU documentary was named best special broadcast. “Mr. Midwestern” was produced by four students who graduated in 2017.

CBI is a national organization with approximately 200 members, and this year’s competition drew 400 entries.

MSU students were also finalists in 2002-2005, 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2019, with a 2005 documentary also winning the Best Special Broadcast award.
