Upon discussions with an advisory community group that included area foundations and MSU Texas, the Board of Directors of the Nonprofit Center of Texoma (NPC) will transition NPC's function to MSU Texas effective January 1, 2019.

Kathy Kabell, NPC's Chairman of the Board, said, "After much discussion and reviewing options for a community partner, it was determined that the mission of the NPC could be bolstered by this move of services to MSU Texas' Dillard College of Business Administration. The need for nonprofits to have a source of educational opportunities that makes nonprofits stronger compliments a new nonprofit minor, which the college will begin offering in the spring of 2019. The similarities of NPC's services and what the nonprofit minor will offer are quite complementary."

Suzanne Shipley, President of MSU Texas, said, "We are grateful for the confidence placed in our university and look forward to building upon a needed program for our community. Our new curriculum and our strategic plan to engage with our community fully align with this transition."

Enabled by support from The Priddy Foundation, MSU Texas is launching a new minor in nonprofit management in 2019. Open to students from all majors, the minor builds the financial and organizational skills needed to lead in the nonprofit sector. Adding some of the training, tools, and consulting activities formerly performed by the NPC creates new opportunities for MSU Texas' faculty, staff, and students to serve and engage with the community.

The NPC originally began in 1981 at the North Texas Area United Way. The Center was a collaborative partnership between Levi Strauss (initial $25,000 funding), Junior League (resources) and MSU, with Dr. Louis J. Rodriguez providing meeting space, and MSU professors to teach and facilitate classes on campus.
