Hardin Professor next Faculty Forum speaker
The second Faculty Forum presentation of the fall will feature this year's Hardin Professor, Dr. David Carlston. He will speak about "Motivational Interviewing: A Framework for Inspiring Change" at 7 p.m., Monday, Oct. 1, in Legacy Hall's Multipurpose Room.
Carlston said that motivational interviewing (MI) is an approach to aid behavior change in others. This technique is utilized in multiple medical disciplines to assist patients making meaningful health-related change, such as smoking cessation or obesity management. Successful implementation of MI respects and capitalizes on an individual's preparedness for change. The implications for MI in the academic arena will be discussed.
Hardin Professor is the highest honor given to MSU professors. Carlston was named the 58th Hardin Professor at the May commencement ceremony.
Faculty Forum is a monthly showcase for the research and creative endeavors of the Midwestern State University faculty. It is an opportunity for the campus and Wichita Falls communities to learn, engage, and sometimes discuss the novel ideas and explorations of the talented individuals who teach, discover, and create at MSU Texas. Admission is free and open to all.
The 2018-2019 Faculty Forum committee is Whitney Snow, Andrew Allen, and Jonathan Price. Contact Price at jonathan.price@msutexas.edu or 940-397-4288 for more information.
