MSU Texas Student Awarded AAUW International Fellowship
Midwestern State University graduate student Comfort M. Boye is the recipient of an International Fellowship from the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Boye, from Ghana, is currently pursuing a master's degree in clinical psychology.
Boye calls the scholarship a "dream opener." She is passionate about mental health conditions, especially addictions, and wants to become a known voice in school education on drug abuse.
"I am excited to be selected for this scholarship knowing that more lives would be touched from this benevolent act," Boye said. "And as I always say, my success story can never be complete without making mention of AAUW and MSU Texas." Her long-term goal is to build a rehabilitation home and fight the stigmatization of addicts who seek treatment.
AAUW is one of the world's leading supporters of graduate women's education. The organization has awarded more than $115 million in fellowships, grants, and awards to 13,000 women from more than 145 countries since 1888. For the 2018-19 academic year, AAUW awarded a total of $3.9 million through six fellowships and grants programs to 250 scholars, research projects, and programs promoting education and equity for women and girls.
The funding helps women continue their education and research, especially given that the growing burden of student debt disproportionately affects women. AAUW's awards alleviate that burden so women can focus on developing the skills and experience they need to excel. Recipients pursue academic work and lead innovative community projects to empower women and girls.
