Professor Emerita Lynn Hoggard will read from her award-winning poetry collection at 4 p.m. Friday, April 13, in Legacy Hall's Multipurpose Room. Students Kristy Henderson and David Milks also will read for this event in the Red River Reading Series.

Hoggard's latest book, Bushwhacking Home: Poems, won first place in the 2018 Press Women of Texas poetry competition. She has written several books, including Motherland: Stories and Poems from Louisiana, and Married to Dance: The Story of Irina and Frank Pal. Hoggard has also published translations of poems and novels, including Nelida, which won the Soeurette Diehl Fraser Award for Best Translation from the Texas Institute of Letters.

Hoggard grew up in Cajun South Louisiana speaking Cajun French before she spoke English. She spent three years in France as a teacher and researcher. Hoggard was Professor of English and Foreign Languages at MSU Texas from 1986-2011. She was named Hardin Professor in 1997. During 2005, she taught English and French in MSU Texas' Study Abroad Program at the Abbey in Pontlevoy, France.
