MSU Ranked Fifth in "Up and Coming" Southern Nursing Schools List

Midwestern State University's master's program in nursing landed a spot in a Top 10 list of Up and Coming Nursing Schools in the South for 2016. MSU came in fifth based on points awarded for innovative teaching methods, cutting-edge technological resources, flexible track options, community connections, and other criteria. MSU was the only Texas school on the list.

Information from the website "Best Master of Science In Nursing Degrees" states that many nursing schools in the South are expanding their facilities and program offerings to accommodate the increasing demand for highly trained nurses in the region and across the nation. Some of these schools have yet to receive recognition from national publications, yet deserve consideration from aspiring nurses looking for a more affordable or accessible nursing school option.

To discover these up-and-coming programs, dozens of southern schools with nursing departments were researched and evaluated in terms of their commitment to ongoing growth. The schools were rated in a system that awarded points for innovative instructional methods, use of cutting-edge technological resources, recent facility additions/renovations, related student organizations and societies, flexible track options (distance learning, weekend/evenings, accelerated degree programs), and community connections. Points were also awarded for a "wow" factor, a unique feature or program that impressed the evaluators.

MSU received five points. The top school, Armstrong State University in Savannah, Ga., received eight points.
