MSU's Artist-Lecture Series speakers find agreement on political issues

With a presidential election coming up this November, agreement between Democrats and Republicans on any issue is scarce. But Democratic strategist Bob Beckel and conservative Republican columnist Cal Thomas have been finding agreement on matters that lawmakers could not. Beckel and Thomas will bring their "Common Ground" approach to Midwestern State University's Akin Auditorium at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, as part of MSU's Artist-Lecture Series.

The two longtime friends wrote a twice-weekly forum page, "Common Ground," for USA Today in a point-counterpoint style for more than 10 years. Their last column appeared Dec. 30, 2015.

Beckel is a veteran political consultant, was co-host of The Five on Fox News, and is a regular Democratic political analyst for numerous other broadcast network newscasts. He sees issues with an insider's perspective and shares his insight on the White House, Capitol Hill, the campaign trail, and America's legislative process. He has consulted for numerous campaigns, corporations, trade associations and labor unions, specializing in consensus-building and influencing public policy.

Thomas is one of America's most widely read, conservative op-ed columnists. His column appears in the Wichita Falls Times Record News. He hosts a daily radio program syndicated to more than 300 stations nationwide and has worked for NBC, CNBC, PBS, and the Fox News Network. His latest book is What Works: Common Sense Solutions for a Stronger America, in which he challenges readers to pay attention to their political leaders, and political leaders to start focusing on the needs of the people.

The 51st season of the Artist-Lecture Series will close April 12 with Dr. Michio Kaku, author, physicist, and co-founder of the string field theory, which continues Einstein's search to unite the four fundamental forces of nature into a unified theory of everything.

MSU's Artist-Lecture Series was established in 1964 to bring noted lectures and quality programs in the performing arts to the MSU campus and the Wichita Falls community.
