MSU to host Ebola Virus Disease forum

Midwestern State University's Gunn College of Health Sciences and Human Services will present a Community Forum on Ebola Virus Disease from 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, October 21, in Dillard 101.

The forum will begin with an informational session that will address the history of the virus, a timeline of key events, and signs and symptoms of the disease. Dr. Robert McBroom, a local infectious disease specialist, will address transmission and treatment of Ebola Virus Disease. The remainder of the forum will provide the community with an opportunity to ask questions pertaining to prevention of the disease and the preparedness of our community.

"This forum is about educating our community," said Dr. Karen Polvado, Associate Professor in MSU's Wilson School of Nursing and facilitator of Tuesday's forum. "We recognize that many people have questions. This is one way we can have open discussion about Ebola and provide our community with the information they need to know about prevention, transmission, and treatment of the disease."

Among the health care professionals in attendance at the forum will be Dr. Keith Williamson, Medical Director of MSU's Vinson Health Center; Dr. Scott Hoyer, Vice President of Quality and Chief Medical Officer at United Regional; Lou Kreidler, Director of Health for the Wichita Falls-Wichita County Public Health District; Glenn Barham, Wichita Falls Mayor; and Dr. David Carlston, behavioral psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychology at MSU.
