Special Education Department Recognized for Outstanding Student Chapter

Midwestern State University won the Charlotte Lewis Award at this year's Texas Council for Exceptional Children (TCEC) state conference on July 11 in Fort Worth. This award is given to the outstanding student chapter with the most representation at TCEC. MSU has won the award for best campus organization every year since 2009.

Edward Schultz, Assistant Professor of Special Education at MSU, said "Our special education majors at MSU consistently show dedication to children with disabilities year round with community events and active involvement in the field of disabilities. The annual conference allows us to showcase our students' efforts."

TCEC is a subdivision of the national Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), which is the largest international professional organization dedicated to improving the educational success of children and youth with exceptionalities. With more than 29,000 members, CEC is the source for information, resources, and professional development for special educators, and ensures the needs of children and youth with exceptionalities are met in educational legislation. CEC has a student chapter in each state, and the Texas chapter is dominated by MSU because of the leadership of Special Education professors.
