Social Science Group Honors MSU's Collins
Mike Collins, Professor Emeritus in History at Midwestern State University, was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the Southwestern Social Science Association (SSSA) meeting in San Antonio April 16-19. The Distinguished Service Award recognizes those who have given exceptional service to the SSSA over a period of years.
Collins has been at MSU since 1985 and was named Professor Emeritus in 2010. He has written numerous books and articles on North Texas, the West, and Texas politicians.
Founded in 1919, the SSSA is the oldest interdisciplinary social science association in the United States, and is composed of professionals and students in the social sciences, including academics and other professionals. The purpose of SSSA is to promote, cultivate, and correlate the various areas of the social sciences and their applications. The annual meeting draws more than 1,000 social scientists from around the world.
