Henrietta Native, MSU Alumna to Deliver Commencement Address

Henrietta native and Midwestern State University alumna Dr. Stacia L. Haynie will deliver the commencement address at Midwestern State University's graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. Dec. 14 at Kay Yeager Coliseum. Approximately 516 students are candidates to earn their degrees this December.

Haynie is the J.W. Annison Jr. Family Alumni Professor at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She has been at LSU since 1990 and has held positions of Vice Provost for Academics and Planning, Associate Graduate Dean, and Professor and Department Chair.

Her teaching and research interests of judicial politics, constitutional law, comparative judicial behavior, and American politics have led to extensive field research in South Africa, the Philippines, and India. She is the author of Judging in Black and White: Decision Making in the South African Appellate Division, 1950-1990. In addition to her book, Haynie has presented her research in articles printed in many political and policy journals, and at numerous professional conferences. In 2012, Haynie was given the Outstanding Reviewer Award from Political Research Quarterly.

Haynie graduated summa cum laude from MSU with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre in 1981 and then earned a Master of Arts in Political Science from MSU in 1986. She earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of North Texas in 1990. In 1981, she was named Outstanding Education Student at MSU and in 1989, was Outstanding Graduate Student in Political Science at UNT. Haynie was recognized as the Distinguished Alumna from MSU's Department of Political Science in 1999 and the Fain College of Fine Arts in 2011.

Other honors include the ING Professor of Excellence Award in 2011 and being named LSU's nominee for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education Professor of the Year. At LSU, Haynie has received the Distinguished Faculty Award; the College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Faculty Award; University Alumni Association Faculty Excellence Award; and the College of Arts and Sciences Advisory Council Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching.

Haynie is the daughter of Doyle and Leota Edwards of Henrietta. She graduated from Henrietta High School in 1977.
