Bloomberg economist to speak at Streich Family Lecture Series

Bloomberg economist Richard Yamarone will be the guest speaker for the 30th anniversary of the Streich Family Lecture Series on Free Enterprise. Yamarone will speak on "What Economic Indicators to Watch for in Recession/Recovery" at 2 p.m. February 2 in the J.S. Bridwell Auditorium in the Dillard College of Business Administration building. 

Yamarone is senior economist for Bloomberg Brief: Economics, a daily newsletter that features analysis, data, and news on forces shaping the global economy. He is the creator of the Bloomberg Orange Book, a compilation of macroeconomic anecdotes from CEOs and CFOs. Yamarone was director of economic research at Argus Research and a member of the firm's investment policy committee. He has consulted to monetary and fiscal policymakers and served as an economic adviser to major U.S. corporations. In addition, Yamarone has held senior positions for several international and domestic money center and investment banks. 

Yamarone has taught numerous courses on macroeconomics and economic indicators at several colleges and institutions. He has served as president of the prestigious Downtown Economists Club of New York City. Yamarone is the author of Trader's Guide to Key Economic Indicators and a member of the National Association for Business Economists, the American Economic Association, the New York State Economics Association, and the Money Marketeers of New York University. He was featured as one of the top 10 economists in the United States by USA Today in 2007 and "Nostradamus of the Financial Industry" by Bank Advisor in 2008 for his prediction of the financial crisis. 

The lecture series is named in honor of the Streich family, owners of former area Gibson's Discount Centers, and is designed to give MSU students, staff, and the public insight into the American free enterprise system in relation to today's economic status. Former speakers include Texas businessman T. Boone Pickens, Dr. Robert Z. Lawrence of the Brookings Institute, Lindley H. Clark Jr. of the Wall Street Journal, and Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts Susan Combs. 

Admission is free. The event is sponsored by the Dillard College of Business Administration.
