MSU's Tau-Gamma Wins 23rd Consecutive Best Chapter Award
Midwestern State University's Tau-Gamma chapter of Phi Alpha Theta has won the history honor society's Nels A. Cleven Award for Division III for the 23rd consecutive year. This highly coveted award is reserved for those that have won the best chapter distinction at least five times and is the highest honor Phi Alpha Theta can bestow upon a chapter.
"Chapter advisor Everett Kindig has been a tremendous resource for Phi Alpha Theta and serves as an example for our other advisors for service to Phi Alpha Theta, as well as dedication to your students," Dr. Graydon A. Tunstall, Phi Alpha Theta executive director, stated.
James Hammond, chapter president, also attributes the society's success to their many field trips, conference presentations, and community service projects held during the semester. "This semester we have students presenting papers at the Texas Medieval Association held at Baylor University," Hammond said. "We will be doing a community service project at the Tales æN' Trails Museum in Nocona and have possibly three field trips planned this year."
Phi Alpha Theta is a professional society with more than 800 chapters whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication, and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. MSU's Tau-Gamma Chapter was organized in April 1972 and has initiated more than 400 members through the years.
