Students Win 35 Awards at Annual TIPA Competition

 

Midwestern State University's student media won 35 awards at the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association competition in Fort Worth on April 2.

 

The weekly student-produced newspaper The Wichitan was awarded third place in the Best of Show competition. Individual students won seven first-place awards, nine second-place awards, six third-place awards, and 12 honorable mentions.

 

Those earning first-place awards included:

         Courtney Foreman, Ryan Geer, Latoya Vaughn and Lauren Wood, TV Public Affairs Program,

         Alyssa Johnston, newspaper in-depth reporting,

         Brittany Norman, newspaper critical review,

         Brittany Norman and Chris Collins, newspaper feature page design,

         Julia Raymond, literary magazine feature photo,

         Anastasia Reed, TV advertising, and

         Colleen Wilson, radio sports writing.

 

Those earning second-place awards included:

         Kassie Bruton, newspaper feature photo,

         Stephen Igbinedion, literary magazine essay

         Summer Matthews, Jake McDaniel and Abigail Scott, TV production,

         Brittany Norman, newspaper general column,

         Brittany Norman, newspaper news feature,

         Brittany Norman, newspaper picture story,

         Travis Paul, newspaper sports feature story,

         Bethany Rumble, TV news non-feature story, and

         Colleen Wilson, radio announcing.

 

Those earning third-place awards included:

TIPA is a statewide organization of journalism and mass communication programs. Its annual convention/competition attracts about 75 universities and 500 students.
