Scottie Parsons Featured Artist in the Juanita Harvey Art Gallery
For more than four decades Scottie Parsons produced beautiful works of art, making her a highly recognized artist not only is the Wichita Falls area, but also throughout Texas and the Southwest. Parsons earned her bachelor's degree in art education from Midwestern State University, where she also completed graduate-level work. Now her work returns to the university in the selected retrospective, Beauty Lives: Scottie Parsons, in the Juanita Harvey Art Gallery from March 4 through April 15. An opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 4.
Parsons' works can be found in private collections around the world including those of Neiman Marcus stores across the United States, the Hallmark Collection, Verizon, Las Vegas' Palazzo Hotel, Santa Fe's Rancho Encantado Resort, and the Venetian Hotel in Macau, China. She studied with noted contemporary artists Helen Frankenthaler, Richard Diebenkorn, Nancy Graves, Nathan Oliveira, and Joan Synder. In 2001 Parsons was honored as the Fain College of Fine Arts Distinguished Alumna. Other honors include the 1997 Wichita Falls Art Association Peoples' Choice Award and recognition by the Women's Hall of Fame of North Texas for Outstanding Achievement in the Arts in 1988.
Beauty Lives: Scottie Parsons and the opening reception are being held in conjunction with From the Ceramic Studio III. The ceramics exhibit will be featured in the foyer gallery and is a collection of pieces created by students participating in MSU continuing education classes.
