24. Midwestern State University Radiology Program

School's in session

Way down in Wichita Falls, Texas, one university's radiology program continues to earn acclaim and turn out highly skilled clinicians.

Among the offerings in Midwestern State University's program is one of the first discipline-specific masters of science in radiologic science (MSRS) degrees of its kind in the United States. It includes three separate majors: radiologic administration, radiologic education, and radiologist assistant. This program provides opportunities for radiologic science professionals interested in being radiologic administrators, radiologic educators, and radiologist assistants, regardless of location. The unique "hybrid distance education" curriculum allows working professionals to complete the degree.

In addition, the radiologist assistant (RA) program was one of the first established in the country. Recently retired Nadia Bugg started the program; the current chair is Donna Wright, EdD, RT(R). As an emerging allied health care professional, the RA position provides an advanced clinical role for experienced radiologic technologists. Participation in this program is limited and the enrollment competition has quickly become extremely competitive.
