MSU ranked among top schools based on new study
A new study released by the American Council of Trustees and Alumni (ACTA) provided Midwestern State University with an A based on the core offerings required by the university.
The study examined 714 four-year universities based on seven core subjects the ACTA decided were necessary to be globally competitive and well-rounded. They were composition, literature, foreign language, U.S. history, economics, math and science. Only 16 of the universities rated an A for requiring six or seven of the core courses listed. Midwestern State requires all but a literature course.
Most Texas universities earned a B or higher in the study, probably because it is the only state in the country that has strict requirements. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board stipulates core curriculum requirements for Texas schools, including six hours of history and six hours of political science in its core.
Midwestern State was the first university of the state Texas schools to require a standard set of core subjects and has done so since the late 1970s.
Other Texas universities that earned an A ranking include Baylor University, Lamar University, Texas A&M University-College Station, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and University of Dallas. Visit www.whatwilltheylearn.com for more information.
