Juried Student Exhibition opens May 7
The Juanita Harvey Art Gallery at Midwestern State University will present it's Juried Student Exhibition 2010, Friday, May 7 through August 27, 2010. An opening reception will be held Friday, May 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., with an award ceremony starting at 7:00 p.m.
The Juanita Harvey Art Gallery will present its Juried Student Exhibition 2010, which marks the culmination of studio activities associated with the art program during the 2009 - 2010 academic year. As in years past, the goal of the student exhibition is to highlight the most outstanding student efforts from the disciplines offered by the Fine Arts undergraduate program at Midwestern State University. This year, art work will be chosen by an independent juror who was selected by the art faculty for her expertise and understanding of undergraduate art works. The juror is brought in to add an educational experience for students in preparation for professional careers in art.
About the juror:
Cedar Marie is Assistant Professor of Foundations at the University of Oklahoma. She is a recipient of a 2010 Oklahoma Visual Arts Coalition Art Writing and Curatorial Fellowship. Her paper, "Transcending Bodies: The Work of Robert Gober, Felix-Gonzales-Torres, and Rachel Whiteread," was presented at the 2006 Trans Visual Culture Conference (Madison, Wisconsin) as part of the "Nature and Culture" panel discussion. Her curatorial projects include the Culture in Transition Exhibit This Land is My Land (MIAD, 2008), and Of the Body (UW-Madison 2007). Her work is cited in numerous publications including Slate Magazine and Art Journal. She received an MFA in sculpture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
