Students win 36 awards at TIPA competition

Midwestern State University's student media won 36 awards, including the On-Site Sweepstakes award, at the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association competition in Kerrville on March 27.

 

Students representing MSU participated in 22 on-site contests, placing in 11 of them and winning the On-site Sweepstakes award.

 

MSU's weekly, student-produced newscast, Campus Watch, took second place in general excellence and was second overall in the television sweepstakes competition.  MSU's weekly, student-produced newspaper, The Wichitan, was third in the overall newspaper sweepstakes competition and was awarded an honorable mention in general excellence.

 

Individual students won seven first-place awards, eight second-place awards, four third-place awards and 13 honorable mentions.

Those earning third place awards included:

TIPA is a statewide organization of journalism and mass communication programs.  Its annual convention/competition attracts about 75 universities and 500 students.
