WFMA at MSU to host two exhibitions during Hispanic Heritage Month

Hispanic Heritage Month is September 15 - October 15, 2009.  In recognition of this time of education and outreach, the Wichita Falls Museum of Art will host two exhibitions related to Hispanic and Latino artists.

The Paintings of Rene' Alvarado, 2009 Honorary Texas Two-Dimensional Artist

The museum will celebrate the accomplishments of this emerging artist whose family immigrated to the US when he was 10 years old.  He initially learned English through images his teacher used until a second language teacher could be hired.  This year, Mr. Alvarado was honored by the Texas Commission on the Arts and the Texas Legislature as the 2009 Texas Two-Dimensional Artist for 2009.

Serie Print Project @ WFMA

It is the mission of the Serie Project to produce, promote, and exhibit the work of Latino artists and others, and to make the production and sale of prints affordable to both artist and patron.  The Wichita Falls Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition of the Serie Print Project through November 14, 2009.  The Serie Project produces between 750 and 900 prints per year depending on the number of participating artists.  The focus is on the work of Latina/o artists, but is not exclusively so.  The artist keeps one half of the prints s/he produces, and the Serie Project keeps the other.  The work of all the artists is then shown at exhibits during the course of the year.

If you know of regionl organizations that would be interested in these exhibitions and like to partner with the museum to promote Hispanic Heritage Month,  please contact the museum at 940-397-8900.
