New endowment to honor Juanita and Ralph Harvey Jr.
A new endowment to honor the memory of Juanita and Ralph Harvey Jr.has been made possible by Caren Harvey Prothro together with Tuck and Ralph Harvey III. The endowment will be used to help support the art program at Midwestern State University.
The Harvey family's dedicated, long‑term support of the art program will be honored at a special recognition ceremony on October 29 at 3:30 p.m. in the department gallery. The ceremony will also commemorate the re‑naming of the University Art Gallery as The Juanita Harvey Art Gallery and the Department of Art as The Juanita and Ralph Harvey School of Visual Arts.
During her lifetime Juanita Harvey, who was herself an accomplished artist, frequently took art classes at MSU. She also established the Juanita Harvey Art Excellence Awards, given annually to outstanding art students.
The 30th anniversary of the Fine Arts Building, which in 1992 became the Fain Fine Arts Center will also be celebrated this fall.
To commemorate both the endowment and the 30th anniversary, the Department of Art will present a Thirty-Year Selected Retrospective: Midwestern State University Art Gallery 1978-2008. The exhibition will run from Wednesday, October 29, 2008, through Friday, January 9, 2009, with an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, October 31.
The Thirty-Year Retrospective is part of a wider, year-long celebration. The celebration began in February 2008 with an Arts and Civic Engagement Workshop presented by Animating Democracy, a program sponsored by Americans for the Arts. The celebration will also be marked by a Faculty Exhibition in The Juanita Harvey Art Gallery that will run from Friday, September 12, through Friday, October 10, 2008, with an opening reception from 6-8 p.m. on September 12.

Donations of $250 or more will earn the contributor permanent recognition on the new Friends of the Fine Arts donor wall in the Fain Fine Arts Center.
