Speakers announced for MSU Commencement
Mr. Glen Veteto ('79) and Dr. Lynwood Givens ('71) have been announced as the speakers for spring commencement scheduled for May 10 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Veteto will speak at the 10 a.m. ceremony which will deliver degrees to those students graduating from the colleges of Fine Arts, Health Sciences and Human Services, and Science and Mathematics.
Veteto earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Midwestern State University in 1979, majoring in theatre. He also holds the master's degree in administrative studies from Southeastern Oklahoma State University.
As a student at Midwestern, he was part of the theatre cast that performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington where he received the Kennedy Medallion for Acting. Upon graduation Veteto worked for 23 years in show business as an actor, director, writer and producer. In 1999 he was elected to the National Board of Directors of the Screen Actors Guild in Hollywood. Through the years he has acted in numerous commercials, sitcoms, soap operas, episodic television, live plays, and film becoming a vested member of the Screen Actors Guild.
Givens will speak at the 2 p.m. ceremony which will be granting degrees to students graduating from the colleges of Business Administration, Education, and Humanities and Social Sciences.
Givens graduated from high school in Electra, Texas. He graduated summa cum laude from MSU in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in physics and mathematics. He then earned both a master's degree and a doctorate in physics from The University of Texas at Austin.
Givens is currently a consultant and investment analyst in Plano. He was recently named to the MSU Board of Regents by Governor Rick Perry.
In 1981 he began working for Raytheon E-Systems. His work there led to the granting of five patents in the field of geospatial image processing. He has worked for major intelligence organizations of the U. S. Government and for the Department of Defense.
In 1996, Givens became vice president of product applications and research of "Space Imaging," the company that launched the world's first high-resolution, commercial imaging satellite.
Several years later, he returned to Raytheon Corporation where he served, until recently, as the chief technical officer of Information and Intelligence Systems.
Approximately 680 students will be candidates for graduation on May 10. Doors will open one hour before each of the ceremonies.
