Band Camp to kick off summer camps
The 49th Annual Midwestern State University Band Camp will be held June 9-13th at the MSU campus. Students from beginners through graduating seniors are invited to participate in one of several bands which will allow them to play with students from other schools, make new friends, and receive invaluable instruction on their instruments.
Mr. Poney Thompson, retired Rider High School band director, will return to conduct the Honors Band this summer. Also directing bands are Rodney Bennett and Teresa Archambo. Students will be assigned to a band according to age and will rehearse throughout the week, culminating in a concert on Friday evening in D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Students will also be able to participate in electives each day, activities in the evening, and fun throught the week.
A change this year will be the elimination of the Sunday audition period. All students will meet on Monday morning, June 9th at 7:45 a.m. in the Fain Fine Arts Building Theater, where they will be given instructions on band placement and audition procedures. On-site registration will be available at that time, beginning at 7:30 a.m. Early registration is encouraged, and registration forms and information should be available from area band directors, or by going on-line to www.msumusic.org and clicking on MSU Band Camp.
The cost of the camp is $100 or $60 for high school students who have been in All-region or All-State band. A special reduced rate of $75 is for beginners, or $50 if they attend the WFISD beginners camp prior to the MSU camp. Lunch is available in the MSU cafeteria for $30, and housing/meals are available for out-of-area students for $200. The MSU snack bar is also available for use by the campers.
