Author Douglas Preston to sign copies of "Ribbons of Time"
Well-known author Douglas Preston will be in Wichita Falls Jan. 18 to sign copies of Ribbons of Time along with copies of his new book being released Jan. 8.
Ribbons of Time is a deep portrait, in photographs and text, of an extraordinary area in the Big Bend country of Texas. In 1996, Walter W. Dalquest and Rose Dalquest donated a remote and unknown canyon in the Big Bend area, known as the Devil's Graveyard, to Midwestern State University to be used for research into the natural sciences.
The magnificent and rare photography in this volume is the result of Walter Nelson's two-year exploration of Devil's Graveyard. Nelson was joined by Douglas Preston whose text recounts the sweeping history of the canyon, beginning with its birth in violence and fire some fifty million years ago.
The result is Ribbons of Time, a rare and elegant volume which combines photographic art, history and science in a profound and deep portrait of this unknown Texas canyon. There are few undiscovered places left in America. This is one of them.
The signing will be held at Books-A-Million on Jan. 18 at 6 p.m.
