The Midwestern State University Art Gallery is proud to host work by Steve Hilton, Midwestern State University Assistant Professor of Art. Hilton earned his Master of Fine Art by Arizona State University and holds a Master of Science in Art Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Geology. Midwestern State University Department of Art brought Hilton in fall 2006 where he is currently the head of ceramics and art education program.

As a geologist and clay artist, Hilton has developed an appreciation for the anomalies in the many forms of life, clay, rock and soil covering the Earth's landscape. Intrigued by nature and geologic time, by the way weather, plants, and animals have influenced the earth's surface through upheaval, erosion and deposits, Hilton makes works through a combination of hand-building and wheel-throwing that similarly evidence history and the processes of becoming.

Like vast landscapes, Hilton creates installations of thousands of parts, which may at first glance appear the same.  On closer examination, you perceive the wonderful subtleties that hold your attention and make you linger or come back for more.

Hilton has an active exhibition record competing in national and international juried shows. Most recently he exhibited at the Zhangjiang Modern Art Museum in Shanghai, China where he was also included in their permanent collection. In 2008 Hilton's work will be traveling to Shepparton, Australia at the Shepparton Art Gallery and Gmunden, Austria at Hipp Hall.
