First Perot Systems scholarship awarded
The Dillard College of Business Administration at Midwestern State University and Perot Systems, Inc of Plano Texas, awarded the first Perot Systems Scholarship to Virginia Marie Hoffman Hummel of Wichita Falls, TX. The Perot Systems Scholarship is the largest single scholarship awarded in the College's history.
Perot Systems has partnered with the Dillard College by providing career opportunities for qualified graduates for the Perot Academy in the Health Care Division of the company. As part of the support for the Dillard College and its students, Perot Systems has made available $10,000 annually to be awarded as two (2) $5,000 scholarships (one each semester) for a junior full-time student in the Dillard College.
The criteria for eligibility for consideration is quite rigorous. Initially, students must be business majors with junior standing and a minimum grade point average of 3.25. Eligible students were notified by mail by Dr. Anthony Chelte, Dean of the Dillard College.
Students who were invited must formally apply and compete for the cash award by submitting a well-constructed resume, a cover letter to the dean indicating why h/she should be considered for the award, and a cover letter to the President of the Health Care Division of Perot Systems indicating why h/she should be selected as the recipient.
All completed submissions were carefully reviewed for quality, completeness, and professionalism. Two finalists were selected who were invited to Perot Systems Corporate offices located in Plano, TX. This phase of the selection process consisted of interviews with the students by executives of the Healthcare division, meeting Mr. Ross Perot, and a formal presentation to the students, faculty, and executives of the Perot Academy.
Recommendations were made by Perot Systems and the scholarship recipient was named.
