MSOC: Brown tabbed SSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's Daniel Brown will lead the Mustangs to their third-straight Southwest Soccer Conference championship in 2007 so says a panel of the league's head coaches, sports information directors and various media representatives.
Brown, a senior from Arlington (Texas) Martin High School, was named the SSC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year as Midwestern was picked to finish first on all but one of the 13 ballots as the league released its annual preseason poll on Monday afternoon.
The 5-9 midfielder is the Mustangs' top returning scorer after scoring seven goals and assisting six others as he finished with 20 points a season ago.
Brown's stellar play was instrumental in helping MSU to an 18-2-1 mark and second-straight SSC title as the Mustangs advanced to the NCAA Division II postseason for the third time in five years before bowing out to national finalist Fort Lewis in the Midwest Regional Finals via a shootout.
Northeastern State and West Texas A&M were picked to tie for second place followed by Eastern New Mexico and Missouri Southern.
NSU defender Kenneth Chrstensen was named the SSC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
