Koby Styles to coach MSU Cross Country

WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Koby Styles fashioned a highly successful career as a collegiate runner over the past four years at East Central (Okla.) University and the University of Texas-Arlington.

He will now have the opportunity to pilot the Midwestern State women's cross country program to the same height as he was tabbed head coach for the program Monday afternoon.

"Koby is a solid individual and an accomplished collegiate athlete," MSU Athletics' Director Ed Harris said. "I am highly confident his successes will continue as a coach."

Styles, who had a standout prep career at Holliday High School, was a two-time NCAA Division II cross country All-American at East Central where he was named to the All-Lone Star Conference squad in each of his three seasons before transferring to Texas-Arlington for his senior season.

There, he helped the Mavericks to the 2007 Southland Conference team championship while claiming the conference's indoor 5K title.

Styles looks forward to helping the Mustangs improve from their eighth place finish at the LSC meet in 2006.

"This group has a lot of talent and I'd like to see blossom more," the former Holliday High School standout said. "And coming back home is definitely a big plus."

He was also involved in campus life as a member of the NCAA National and LSC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, while maintaining excellence in the classroom where he was named an NCAA Division II All-American last fall at East Central.

Styles will continue to pursue a graduate degree in Kinesiology-Exercise Science this fall at MSU.
