MSU tops many schools in alumni giving
According to the newly released Council for Aid to Education Annual Voluntary Support of Education Report (2006), Midwestern State University outranks many Texas public institutions in alumni giving.
In 2005, MSU reported 7.6 percent alumni giving to the university. In the 2006 report, MSU climbed to 9.1 percent alumni giving. According to the VSE Report, this is a larger percentage of alumni participation than many other public schools in the state including Sam Houston State University (6.1%), Stephen F. Austin State University (3%), Texas A&M Commerce (1.3%), and University of Texas at Arlington (4.5%). Only the public flagship schools of Texas Tech (14.5%), University of Texas at Austin (12.7%), and Texas A&M University (15.4%) ranked higher.
The Annual Fund, currently in its fourth year, is the umbrella under which all MSU fundraising falls. The chair of this year's campaign, Eric Robb (æ86), knows the importance of giving.
"I believe that supporting MSU is critical for a number of reasons. First, we all want to give back in some way and what better way than to give to the school that jump started our careers. Second, I believe very strongly in giving locally and supporting the "home team". By giving to MSU, we are benefiting our local economy and beyond. Third, MSU is a great school, and it is right here in our own backyard. And last but not least, with the cuts in state funding to MSU, these contributions are vital to the continued success of our school. You can feel confident that you are truly making a difference at MSU," stated Robb.
The Council for Aid to Education (CAE) is the nation's leading source of data on private giving to education through the annual Voluntary Support of Education survey. It has conducted survey research on the private support of education since 1957. The survey is open to all colleges, universities, and private elementary and secondary schools in the United States and is cosponsored by the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). CAE disseminates survey results and analyses to educational institutions to help them better plan and assess their fundraising efforts with alumni, foundations, corporations, and others.
