Godwin, Emerson named LSC Scholar Athletes
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State's Ashley Godwin and Brett Emerson were among the Lone Star Conference Scholar-Athlete Award winners for 2006-07 when the league announced its annual honors last week.
Godwin played in 119 volleyball matches as a four-year letter winner for the Mustangs. The Rockwall, Texas native recorded 1,460 career digs(3.77 per game) being used primarily as a libero.
Emerson capped a stellar career by helping Midwestern to four-straight NCAA Division II regional appearances, including a trip to nationals in 2006.
The Canberra, Australia product compiled a dominant 64-26 (.711) singles' record, including a 38-10 (.792) mark at the No. 1 position.
Emerson was also 69-32 (.683) in doubles' play.
Each academic year, the LSC presents a scholar-athlete award to one male and one female student-athlete at each member institution. These student-athletes are selected outstanding accomplishments in athletics, scholarship and leadership.
To be eligible for consideration, student-athletes must have participated at least two years in their sport and must have exhausted their athletic eligibility.
