Three Mustangs Named All-LSC North First Team
WICHITA FALLS, Texas - Midwestern State University placed a total of eight players, including three first-team selections, on the 2007 All-Lone Star Conference North Softball Team announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Pitcher Katie Petersen, catcher Lindsey Voigt and outfielder Cheyanne Paschal were chosen to the All-LSC North first-team. Petersen was also named the loop's Freshman of the Year.
Third baseman Kristen Stonecipher, first baseman Jessica Rodriguez and outfielder Miranda Bishop were picked on the All-LSC North second-team. Shortstop Kelli Shaw and designated player Amanda Hill were tabbed honorable mention.
For the third time in four years, MSU coach Brady Tigert was named the Lone Star Conference North's Coach of the Year.
Petersen, a freshman from Plano, finished the year 22-11 with a 2.04 ERA. She led the LSC in innings pitched (212.1), complete games (28), and strikeouts (217), while also leading MSU in wins and saves (2). Petersen was also named LSC North Pitcher of the week three times this season.
Voigt, a junior from Wichita Falls/Rider, batted .367 with seven doubles, two triples, and seven homeruns, while collecting 32 RBIs, in her first season behind the plate for the Mustangs.
Paschal, a freshman from Magnolia, batted .365 with four doubles and a triple while collecting 12 RBI's. She finished the season ranked in the top five in the LSC for hits with 69.
Stonecipher and Rodriguez tied for the lead in homeruns on the team with eight, while Bishop lead the team in at bats with 190.
Shaw finished the season batting .310, with 13 doubles, while Hill finished with three homeruns and 17 RBIs.
MSU (39-14, 18-6) is the top seed from the North, and well play the fourth seed from the South, Texas Woman's University, in the first round of the LSC Championship Tournament. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m., from Southwest Park in Irving.
